Simeon is hapless, homeless, and hopeless until he is dragged from the streets by Technowizards who need someone with a nice voice. Simeon has a nice voice and suddenly also has a job reading community news into a magic crystal. He doesn't know how the magic works, but the technicalities aren't his job. It's his job to find things out, then say those things into the magical broadly cast spell so the entire city can hear up-to-date unicorn-race results or breaking news about the latest plague.

Unfortunately, his new job has the Town Criers' union throwing things at his building for stealing their jobs.

It also has the attention of Cravenbridge's notoriously violent political class.

And, as the Technowizards cast their spell more and more broadly, the attention of neighbouring Dark Overlords of Doom...
